PHANTOM MUSE

Ray Roa, Nordlys/P-NOiSE Contemporary Dance Edition, Manilla

In this joint venture with contemporary dancer Ray Roa into kinetic mechanics, we created a wearable sculpture contraption, that would serve as the mask incarceration of the Phantom Muse. Shaped from a blank canvas of a body and then transformed into a new body, the Phantom Muse explored the pull of gravity, tension, the obstruction of the senses and the makeshift concept of fluid identities.

The sculpture was made from scrap wood, bolts, rope and elastic, focusing on joinery, movement, expansion and constriction. The piece was both a dynamic and imposing extension to the dancer as well as a dormant sculpture.
